| I think my xanga died...maybe I'll try to bring it back to life. | | |
| Our 4th of July was fairly uneventful. Stephen and I were just happy having some time off together. Through some miracle I ended up with Monday and Tuesday off. Elizabeth watched fireworks for the first time. We had some sparklers and our neighbors had a lot that they lit. She was fine being outside when it was just one at a time going off, but when it got crazy we went in and watched from the window, she thought they were pretty cool. this Sunday I'm doing children's church again, the curriculum is baby Moses, I think there's a lot I can do with that. For the most part the kids were good last Sunday, but it was an extra long service because we had communion so there were 10 minutes at the end where the kids started getting really restless. I was hoping to have a 4th of July craft for them to do as a back up, but just couldn't come up with anything. I am very excited for tomorrow...because of some credit card promotion we get to wear jeans to work! but we have to wear some sort of "sports" shirt, so I had to buy a Royals shirt...well worth it for the chance to wear jeans and tennis shoes.
This is Katie's newest thing...after her bath she likes to climb into this cabinet where we keep the diapers and try to "hide" so I can't get her dressed...can't wait to show this one to future boyfriends.

| So...what's new? (since it's been forever since I've posted.) Elizabeth was very sick last week (or was it the week before? It's a blur.) SHe had her first sore throat, but of course when we tried to ask her what was wrong she just said "nothin." The big hint was me saying "Liz, breakfast is ready" and her freaking out and crying like I was trying to torture her by making her eat. She did have a fever for a couple of days so we decided to take her to urgent care. My mother-in-law went with us because it was a Sunday morning and Stephen was committed to doing special music at church. Elizabeth obviously felt warm, but my MIL called to update Stephen and said "I think her temperature is 104. " Stephen asked the whole church to pray for Liz and everyone thought she was actually admitted to a hospital. Yes she had a fever, but my MIL does not have magical thermometer hands. Stephen was also freaked out until I talked to him and gave him the real scoop. It was a virus that just had to run it's course...a long, tiring course. I also ended up with it plus I somehow contracted pinkeye, which Elizabeth ended up with. Miraculously, Katie The Wonderbaby did not get sick. Katie is nuts...if we had chandeliers she would be swinging from them everyday. Work is good, although I had my first mean customer (at this particular job.) It always makes me wonder "where do you learn to treat people this way?" Stephen is very excited as he has been asked to lead the worship at our church Sunday mornings. It might be a slow transition, but it will happen nonetheless. He is very, very happy. | | |
| I have a new job at Bank of America! Yay! I will be making a lot more per hour and I'll be eligible for benefits beginning July 1. It has been an answer to prayer how quickly this has all come together. I applied just hoping that something would open up at the Belton banking center, and sure enough, it did! They're working with my schedule and I'm doing on the job training, which is nice. They've changed systems since I last worked there, but I'm somewhat familiar with it. I gave my notice to Target and they said exactly what I hoped they would "We can't beat that offer so we understand, but you're leaving on good terms so if anything happens and you need a job, we're here." And I'm very proud of myself because I parallel parked downtown and since I hardly ever have an oppurtunity to practice that "skill" I'm pretty happy.
Side Note: If I hear one more story about a mom leaving her newborn in a dumpster I'm going to explode. #1: There are many people wanting to adopt babies. #2: You can leave your baby at a hospital, police station, fire station etc and not get in trouble-there is no excuse!!!!! | | |
| So what's been going on lately? Just living life, I guess...Stephen loves his job. Sometimes the stories he tells can be so sad, though. Not one teenager in there has a file that just says "perpetrator" they all say "victim/perpetrator." These kids had to grow up around people who have taught them that their behaviors are OK, now they have to pay for it. There are even some kids who may have committed one minor act, but because of the system the parents who don't want to deal with their behavioral problems can just say "we don't want them back in our home" even if therapists and administrators agree that they can be released. There is also one kid in particular, I think Stephen said he's 15, I don't know why he's in Ozanam, but I guess he's somewhat slow. Stephen really thinks he's a nice kid, he has parents and grandparents but for whatever reason he is being put up for adoption. He had photos taken to be sent out to agencies and he sent some to his family (which seems really odd, I don't think the family is incapable of taking care of him) but basically if he doesn't find a family to adopt him, he just turns 18, becomes an adult without a family released from Ozanam probably to a halfway house. I know a lot of people who want to adopt are looking for babies, but what about kids like these? I know we aren't in a position of being able to adopt, but it makes me think about the future. God bless people willing to adopt kids with challenges! Amazing...He drew Stephen a self-portrait and wrote on it "God didn't make make no junk!" As for me, I'm still at Target hoping for a bank position. They all seem to want to hire me, they just don't have the open position. I appreciate the girls even more since I have to spend a few hours away from them each day. Last night as we were getting into our car our neighbor who is probably about 6 years old was riding his bike, Elizabeth said "look mommy, that young man is riding a bike." I laughed and said "where did you hear young man? I think he's probably a little boy." After her bath she likes to wrap the towel around her head and body and pretend to be "mary" and apparently I'm Joseph, and Katie gets to be baby Jesus (this is all from the Veggie Tales nativity set she received for Christmas) so after last night's bath she wrapped up and said "I'm Mary, you Joseph, and Katie's baby Jesus. Jesus-King of the Jews!" I said "where did that come from?" I guess she watched the Veggie Tales Christmas DVD and when they tell the Christmas story they use the term "king of the Jews." So on that note, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! | | |
